* Kazmarez was at the side of the lake getting a few laps of water on break from being in the den. He'd brought back some meat for Saigh but he hadn't actually gotten out to stretch his legs and eat and drink anything. As much as he adored the pups and his mate, his long legs demanded some activity. So a little jog was in order, followed up by a drink at the lake seemed like a good ending to his day before going back to sleep with them. Once he'd finished, Kaz would turned back towards the clearing to see whom was up and about this time of night - it sounded like quite a few by the number of voices*
* Khal had returned to the clearing after doing a brief scan of the inner borders of the new territory. Prior to moving here, he hadn't spent much time on this side of the pack's territory, other than quick visits while patrolling the borders. So familiarizing himself with what was normal seemed like a good idea. He broke through the treeline near the lake and padded to the shore, leaning down to take a long -drink and then settling back on his haunches with a sigh. His stomach twisted, but it had nothing to do with hunger. Rather, something that had been eating at his nerves for these past few weeks. Something that he couldn't get off his mind no matter how hard he tried. Khal flattened one ear, glancing around the clearing. At once, his sharp eyes picked up the shape of Kazmarez, the Alpha. Kazmarez, Frost's dad. Kazmarez, the wolf who could make or break what had boiled down to being one of the most important moments of his life. Drawing in a shaky breath, the new Guardian took a step towards the Alpha, clearing his throat. "Hey, Kazmarez. Can I talk to you for a moment?"
* Kazmarez had been debating on whether he wanted a piece of meat before heading back into the den, but his thoughts were interrupted by a woof from behind him as he turned toward the cache. Khal. He knew Khal decently so - especially since he had seemed to take a liking to his daughter Frost. He'd been watching from afar making sure things didn't get out of hand, and so far he'd been impressed with the male's responsibility and treatment of Frost. All Frost had were good things to say about him. So this was a wolf he was happy to hear call out to him. Kaz turned around and smiled to the other brute* "Good evening Khal. I was just heading over to the cache to get something to eat, but you can join me if you like. Whats on your mind?" *he asked curiously tilting his head a bit as he waited for Khal to catch up*
* Khal swallowed past a lump in his throat, padding after Kazmarez as he left in the direction of the cache. Truthfully, he was a little hungry. But the thought of attempting to eat anything right now made him sick to his stomach. Nervously, he followed Kazmarez across the clearing, attempting to find the words he needed. When they arrived at the cache, he took one look at the gathered meat (that would soon need to be replenished, he noted) and then looked away, entirely uninterested. With a long, soft sigh, he fell back to his haunches, tail curling around his paws. "I wanted to talk to you... about... about Frost."
* Kazmarez padded on over to the cache in relative silence. he could tell something was weighing on the male's mind. And since it had to do with Frost, but Khal wasn't upset, it had to be one of very few things. Because if Frost was hurt or in trouble and he was being this cool, Kaz might just break his face. But it seemed Frost was alright...* "Frost? Is she alright?" *he asked... he couldn't be too sure. Khal would be met with a curious and perhaps mildly concerned face, but he was pretty confident that his daughter wasn't in need of help at the moment. Kaz would pick out a piece of meat and offer it to Khal... but by his expression, he seemed to not want it. So Kaz simply plopped himself down to tear into it himself waiting for Khal to continue*
* Khal shook his head to clear his racing mind, and watched Kazmarez demolish the slab of caribou he had chosen, suppressing a shudder. Those fangs could rip him into pieces without much effort at all. He swallowed again. Surely Kaz wouldn't react so negatively to what he had to say. After all... it was a good thing, wasn't it? Yes. Yes it was a good thing. It was an excellent thing. He steeled himself, met Kazmarez's gaze, gold on gold. "Frost and I..." He started, then paused. "I'm sure you know that Frost and I are sort of..." He paused again, wrinkling his muzzle in a frustrated self-snarl. Words were just not working for him at this moment. "Sort of a... thing..." He continued, a little more confident than before. "She's been there for me... we've been there for each other... for a long time now. Helped me become what I am today. I don't know where I would be without her." He looked away, flicking his tail and flattening an ear. "I don't ever want to be without her. And... I... I wanted to speak with you tonight about asking Frost to become my Court." There it was. Before Kazmarez could interject, he continued, quickly. "I know it's soon, and we're young, but there is no one else I would rather spend my life with. And... and if you say no I will honor that. But I won't leave her. Not ever." He stopped then, at a loss for anymore words, and realizing he had forgotten to breathe the entire time. He sucked in an attempted-nonchalant breath, and probably failing.
* Kazmarez listened to Khal's words carefully as he spoke, allowing the brute to say everything he wished to say before talking himself. In the meanttime, he munched on a piece of meat, contemplating on a response. Kaz wouldn't say it was unexprected or that it took him off guard. But he had not made a decision yet about the pursuit of this particular relationship. He really had not known Khal well enough to make a good assessment. That would need to change, perhaps. After Khal finished, Kaz took the last bite and paused for a moment, letting some silence hang over them as he considered his words* "You are right, Khal, that you and Frost are both young still. And, if it were pursued, mateship is still not allowed until you're second year. So there is some time yet before things become official in the pack's eyes..." *he started and then gave a bit of a smile* "But, a brute who comes to the father of their beloved, is one that impresses me most. Perhaps you would continue your relationship if I said no... but you have the respect and concern to ask first. I appreciate that more than you know - and it tells me a lot about you, Khal. I don't know you as well as I should, but there is time left for that. In the meantime, I do give you my permission to ask her to be your court. Although I can't speak for her mom, but I believe that she would agree. However, Frost will be the ultimate decider as to whether you do court" *he said with a wink* "Saigh and I will talk over when to make it official - if she does accept."
* Khal listened to Kazmarez's reply, but the blood was pounding so fiercely in his ears that he was surprised he could hear himself think. When he was finished, Khal blinked. That had been less... less threatening... than he had expected. Truly, he hadn't the faintest idea what he'd have done if the answer was no... but it wasn't. He'd said yes. Khal perked a bit, feeling warm and fuzzy on
the inside. He'd done the hard part, now, all there was to do was to... wait. No, this hadn't been the hard part. Regardless of Kaz's answer, he would have still had Frost. Maybe not in name, or title... but she would still be there. He still had to ask her. Which meant it was possible she'd say no... and if she did... Khal narrowed his eyes. What would he do if Frost said no? Feeling dizzy all of a sudden, he hung his head. Aw, jeez. Why did love have to be so complicated. "Thank you, Kazmarez. I am glad I have your blessing." He managed.
* Kazmarez smiled a bit to Khal and nodded to the brute. He knew all too well what was on his mind - having gone through that twice before. He always loved this part though... It was, in some ways, the best part - a mystery almost. The fear made it that much more exciting* "You're welcome. I'll try to ask Saigh when she wakes next. But we'll see what we can do about making a ceremony... just let me know what Frost says" *he said with a reassuring smile* "Good luck... but I don't think you need it. From what Frost says to me about you, I don't think you'll have any trouble" *he chuckled a bit and winked.*
* Khal was still not certain about all of this... but he smiled uneasily at Kazmarez's encouraging words nevertheless. He was glad that the Alpha seemed to like the idea of he and Frost. And even more so that he seemed to believe Frost would say yes when Khal asked. He rubbed his muzzle on his foreleg, flicking his tail. His stomach was still upset, but had calmed a little, and he was hungry, so he rose and padded forward, taking a small piece of meat and crunching it between his jaws. The two of them sat there in a companionable silence for a moment before Khal spoke again. "Any advice? I'm kind of new at this."
